Just how strong are couch grass runners?

Here is a photo taken of a potato which was left in a compost pile near where couch grass was rampant, and which has been amazingly invaded by couch runners. There are three runners growing right through the potato, and one of them can even be slid back and forth like tooth floss through its passage.

This shows just how strong and persistent couch grass can be. Thanks Rae for showing this to us. Do you have any other remarkable garden photos like this?
