Motueka Yacht and Cruising Club
Motueka Yacht and Cruising Club's 100-plus members represent a wide range of yachting and motor launch cruising interests.
Motueka is ideally located for many different aspects of boating - dinghy sailing on the Inlet behind Motueka Spit, trailer yacht racing outside the Motueka Bar, cruising along the Abel Tasman coastline, multi-day cruises across to D'Urville Island and the Sounds.
In support of these activities, the Club maintains a marina with nearly forty berths, and organizes racing throughout September-April.
It also has a haul-out facility for members wishing to work on their boats "on the hard". The Club provides parking for many of the fleet of trailer yachts - among which several classes are represented - for rapid launching on race days.
Club members place a strong emphasis on the "social side" of boating, with good attendance at morning tea at the Club-house throughout the week, "get-togethers" on Friday evenings and other occasions during the year, barbecues after racing on Sunday afternoons, and special events such as overnight race-cruises to places in Abel Tasman Park, such as Anchorage and Adele Island.
The more experienced members of the Club are always ready to provide advice and assistance to others; a key element of the Club's success is generous sharing of time, skills, and knowledge - and yarns!
An important aspect of the Club's activities is assisting Yachting New Zealand with training of local school students, usually at Kaiteriteri.
The tidal nature of Motueka Inlet makes it difficult for the Club to offer a regular sailing school; however, Club members are happy to accept extra crew who turn up on race days, looking for some (semi-) serious sailing experience.
The Club's facilities are well-used, but it does maintain waiting lists for members who are interested in renting a marina berth, or in parking a trailer yacht on the Club's grounds (preference is given to boats which are regular participants in Club racing).
MYCC welcomes applications for membership, both from current boat owners and from people who simply are interested in boating or are considering buying a boat. The classes of membership are:
- Senior member (boat owner or regular crew: $130 p.a.)
- Family member (boat owning families: $150 p.a.)
- Associate member (social member or occasional crew: $80 p.a.)
- Junior member (student at school: $40 p.a.)
If you are interested in finding out more about the Club, or applying for membership, contact the Secretary - Ross Loveridge (phone 03-, email ).
We always encourage prospective members to get to know us by attending a social event or two (even just morning teas!), if they can.
Fuller details of Club events and Officers are found on the MYCC page on the Yachting New Zealand website (www.yachtingnz.org.nz), and in the Club's regular newsletter (available from the Secretary).
